Deuteronomy Ch 28 vv 45-57

What amazes me about the prophecies in the Old Testament, like the predictions in today’s passage, is the pin-point accuracy of so many of them - prophecies declared many hundreds of years ahead of their fulfilment. The exile and captivity of the people of Israel, when they were to be overrun by the Assyrians and Babylonians, was still 800 years in the future. We shouldn’t really be amazed - after all, this is God’s Word and the future, as well as the present and the past, is totally in His hands. Such accurate prophecies should increase our faith in the reliability of what we read in the Bible. The foundation of faith is to believe what God says to us in Scripture.

The suffering described in these verses is absolutely sickening. We must never think that believers will somehow be miraculously delivered from such situations. Christians as well as unbelievers suffered terribly in Hitler’s concentration camps and when the Khmer Rouge communists overran Cambodia. However, the Lord will more than make up for it in the destinies He has planned for His beloved people. This brings a shaft of light into even the darkest days.
