Acts Ch 2 vv 22-36
It is sad that the Jewish authorities could inflict such suffering on a fellow human being. However, by the end of his address Peter proves that Jesus is also God, exalted in Heaven and sending God the Holy Spirit down on His disciples. He is the Christ, the Messiah, and as such He has the right to be Lord over our lives and He challenges us to submit the whole of our lives to His Lordship. Are we doing so day by day?
Peter also emphasises God’s providence. Wicked men crucified Jesus but they were only able to do so by God’s set will and purpose. Death couldn’t hold Him because He is God and eternal. It is great to know this because it means that nothing is impossible for Him to do for His children of faith, whatever our troubles may be. When we endure sorrows it is only because He has a glorious purpose in mind as He had when He allowed His Divine Son to be crucified.
Here again Peter supports his claim that Jesus is the Messiah by referring to Old Testament prophecy. We should immerse ourselves in the Bible because as God’s word it carries more power than our most silver-tongued addresses.
