Ephesians Ch 1 v 1-10
Paul doesn’t set out to reprimand the Ephesians. Instead he concentrates on the blessings resulting from being in a relationship with God through Jesus. This is rich food indeed and we can only nibble at the edges of the feast in these notes. Take time to digest what you read today. We see God as the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ (v3). This is personal. He has blessed us with every blessing (v3). This is bountiful. He chose us before the beginning (4). This is eternal.
He has adopted us. Why? Because He wanted to!(v5). He has forgiven us because of His own generous grace (v7) and He has plans for the future which include us (vv 9-10). This is mind-blowing! There is no distant deity here looking down on a world of little people who are causing all sorts of bother, but a real Person, warm, caring, suffering alongside a creation that He loves dearly. He has poured out His love for our benefit. The blood of His own beloved One has been shed so that we can be forgiven. He hasn’t just given us His grace, He has lavished it on us.
Read the passage again – and again. Ponder on it. Come back to it during the day. This is God Almighty we’re reading about, and what we read is that He loves us. Incredible!
