Luke Ch 19 vv 41-48

As man He sympathises with all our troubles and weakness, but as God He is able to give us victory in our troubles and over them. Unbelievers will face terrible judgment when God’s judgment comes down on them for keeping Him out of their lives. Nevertheless, God “wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth,” (1 Timothy Ch 2 v 4). He gave the Jews forty years to repent but they didn’t. God’s justice has to take its course. The wonderful and humbling news is that Jesus faced that judgment in His people’s place on the Cross.

We often think of Jesus as being meek and mild. Yet He is a Person of strength who couldn’t tolerate the embezzlement taking place in the Temple courtyard. When people came to pay the Temple tax it had to be paid in a special temple currency. The money-changers were making a roaring profit out of the business. His love for ordinary people and His righteousness made Him disgusted with what they were doing.

There are many less than honest practices going on in churches today on the pretext that it is for a good cause. That is probably why the Pharisees turned a blind eye to it. Jesus knew that they loved money, Luke Ch 16 v 14. They wanted to kill Jesus. He was bad for business!
