Luke Ch 1 vv 26-38

Gabriel also tells Mary tremendous truths about Jesus and perhaps one of the most comforting and exciting is that His Kingdom will never end. If Jesus has come into our lives, we have come into a Kingdom that will outlast every earthly power or worldly empire. The communist empire didn’t last long, but the world isn’t a more hopeful place with the rise of militant Islam and the likely proliferation of nuclear armaments in unstable countries. We have no reason to worry! Jesus’ kingdom is going to outlast them all. We are part of that kingdom through faith in Christ.

Mary found Gabriel’s message hard to believe because she knew that a virgin couldn’t become pregnant. However, today’s doubters are very different. They refuse to believe because they can’t understand it. She was willing to accept Gabriel’s explanation that “nothing is impossible with God.” This is a truth continually repeated in Scripture and as if that wasn’t enough we are given no end of examples of it in the Bible and indeed in the lives of Christians today. We need to have faith in the Lord that He will turn the humanly impossible into glorious reality. Jesus had to be born of a virgin and conceived by the Holy Spirit, otherwise He wouldn’t have been totally holy, and, therefore, wouldn’t have been able die for our sins on the Cross.
