Exodus Ch 29 vv 1-28
Some of the details of the slaughter are gruesome, but when we think how awful sin is and how it separates us from God we can understand that this desperate situation requires a desperate remedy. The crucifixion of Christ was gruesome, but what was achieved by means of it was so wonderful that God considered it worth it.
There is variety in the offerings to be made. As well as the bull and the ram there was bread and cake and wafers. We have been given different gifts and so we bring back to the service of our Lord a variety of offerings. Don't look over your shoulder to see what your neighbour is bringing but bring your own offerings with a glad heart.
The offering was not wasted. Some of it was to be used for the very practical purpose of feeding the priests. Let's not forget our responsibilities towards those whom the Lord has told us to set apart for the ministry.
